My dog's red eye has discharge and she's pawing. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 11 months old | 85 lbs

My dog seems to have some type of eye infection, a little bit of yellow discharge and her eye is pretty red.. vets in my area are closed right now but I did wash out with saline solution. Is there anything you can recommend in the meantime? She’s pawing at it and I feel so awful for her!

I would put an Ecollar on Luna for now. If she keeps pawing at her eye, she will scratch the cornea and cause damage to it. I can put a link below on how to make one at home. She will need to see a vet first thing in the morning. I hope this helps! http://dogsaholic.com/care/homemade-dog-cone.html
