My kitten still has a fever. Could it be FIV, FeLV, or parasites?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | 21 days old | 0.2 lbs

I recently found a young kitten in traffic. He has a fever and has seen a vet. He was given antibiotics and dewormer. It has been 4 days and he still has a fever. He eats, plays, potties normally (maybe a little dark). We have other cats in the home and I worry he may be contagious, but the vets here don't routinely test for FIV or FLV. Could this fever in this 3 - 4 week old kitten be a symptom of those things? Or is it more likely parasites?

While Bills certainly could be positive for FeLV or FIV it would be pretty unsusal for him to be symptomatic for the diseases at his age. Parasites don’t typically cause a fever either. If he still has a fever I’d recommend having your vet examine him - some other kind of infection is possible and it is concerning he isn’t responding to antibiotics.
