My dog chewed a computer cord. What symptoms should I watch for?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hello, my dog got out of the room where she stays during the day and chewed up a computer cord. It was not plugged in, so I am not worried about electrocution. I tried to piece it together and it doesn't look like huge chunks are missing. However, I don't know for sure that she didn't swallow a small bit of it. She is acting fine, and she could have chewed this up any time in the past six hours or so. What should I be watching for?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question. Oh no, that’s not good. Gracie is a big dog, and these pieces may pass without problem. Watch for vomiting, diarrhea, blood in her poop, anorexia, or lethargy. If you see any of those signs, then I would take her into the vet. I hope this helps!
