Head shaking doesn't indicate anything on its own. It could be that there is something irritating Orvia's ear or nose, itchy skin, a bug bite causing a reaction, neurologic or muscular issues, or more. If you are seeing other signs and symptoms in addition to the head shaking (loss of balance, nausea, confusion, etc), discharge from the ears or nose, or the head shaking doesn't resolve, having a vet take a look in person is best.

    That would depend on the cause of the shaking. It could be tick in the ear canal, ear mites, ear infection, other causes for itching, a small seizure, etc. I would recommend that you have Joey examined by a vet. Hopefully after a physical exam, they will have a better idea as to the cause and can recommend a treatment to give him comfort.

Hi there! Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Head shaking can be due to an ear infection or ear mites for example. I recommend that you have your pup evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It is very important to proceed with an evaluation soon as head shaking can result in an ear hematoma which can be tough to deal with and can be painful. Good luck!

My dog keeps shaking his head. What could be the problem?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Head tremors can be observed with neurologic conditions or even electrolyte imbalances. I recommend that you have Buddy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They are likely going to perform and examination to be followed by bloodwork which should help start sorting this out. A referral to a veterinary neurologist may be recommended. Good luck!

Hello my name is Jada and my puppy head has been shaking constantly side to side and the only time it stops is when he is asleep. I'm very worried.
Jada, have him examined by your veterinarian. He may have an ear infection (yeast or bacterial) in one or both ears which can cause the excessive shaking. He may also have mites. Your vet can also rule out neurological conditions, trauma or other infection.

Head shaking can often be a sign of an ear infection, something stuck in the ear or a tooth problem. Lift up his ears and look in the canals for redness, discharge or odor. Ear and tooth problems need to be evaluated by a veterinarian and I recommend to have him seen today if possible. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.

I recommend having a veterinarian take a look in her ears with an otoscope. When I see dogs this uncomfortable without a lot of debris and inflammation suggesting an infection, I worry that there is something deep in the ear canal near the ear drum. If your veterinarian doesn't see anything in there, it could just be itchiness from allergies, and they can give you a prescription strength ear wash or other allergy medication. Until someone rules it out, I would be suspicious that there is more going on. I hope Daisy feels better soon.

My dog head is shaking. What is wrong with her?
Unfortunately, shaking is one of these clinical signs that we see in animals for a large variety of reasons. Sometimes, it can be an indication of a neurologic condition or a state that occurs after a seizure. Other times, it can be an indication of pain or discomfort. I have also seen animals shake when they are nauseous. Another very common cause of shaking in dogs, particularly smaller breed dogs, is fear and anxiety. Of all the things I have mentioned, I would say fear and pain seem to be the most common causes overall. The entire clinical picture would have to be taken into account when making a diagnosis. If the only thing you are seeing right now is shaking, I don't think you should rush out to the vet unless you know for sure that Puchy maybe consumed something toxic or is breathing labored.

It could be something is bothering Eivan's ears, like an ear infection. Or his ear could have been itchy. Shaking the head can make you a little disoriented and off balance, so that would explain why he was tripping. Keep an eye on him, and if he does this again, have him seen by a vet.

It’s possible his anal glands are full/uncomfortable. If they are bulging on either side of his anus when you palapate from the outside, then that definitely could be the case. I recommend bringing him to your vet for a rectal exam/anal gland expression and to check his ears. He likely will need and ear cleaner and a steroid/antibiotic/antifungal/antiyeast ointment such as otomax/kometamax/posatex if he has an ear infection. A few days of an allergy medication called Apoquel may help as well. Good luck!
