My cat had a seizure, now her tail twitches. Does she need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 3 years and 10 months old

My cat Myrtle had a grand mal seizure a couple weeks ago. I'm unsure exactly what caused it but I had just adopted her the day prior so she was in a new environment with new owners and a new cat sibling so she likely had a very stressful couple days. She was disoriented afterwards but was back to normal in a few hours. Since her seizure I've noticed she is very twitchy, particularly in her tail. I'm wondering if you know what is wrong with her and what I can do to help her.

Some of her neuropathways are likely still firing which is causing the residual twitching. Seizures in any animal ( just like in people) can be very serious. If she had the seizure and she went back to complete normal then I would suggest you just monitor her for any more seizures. If she has more, she should see a vet. But, because of the residual twitching I think you should get her to a vet now for an examination. Seizures, in most cases, an be managed with medications.
