Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Longhair | Female | spayed | 15 lbs

My 6 year old cat sushi has a really sensitive lower back towards her tail. she gets really oily fur and dandruff. the dandruff got to bad that when i pulled her fur back to look at her skin the hair would just pull right out of the skin as i pulled it back. it got so back to the poi’s where she has hair loss in the area and scabs . So i took her to the vet in waukashaw and they gave me itching pads and steroids for 2 weeks. after that ran out it came back and i don’t know what to do.

I am sorry to hear about Sushi! I would recommend following up with her veterinarian. I would be concerned she could have allergies to airborne allergens (called atopic dermatitis) which responded to the steroids, but the steroids do not get rid of the allergies, just help relieve the symptoms, so often a pet may need to be put on other medications long term to keep the allergies under control. You can read more about this at https://www.petcoach.co/article/allergies-atopy-in-cats/ . If they do not feel it is atopy, they may recommend additional testing for other skin conditions.
