Why is my guinea pig's nipple swollen, purple, and leaking fluid?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Male | unneutered | 5 years and 1 month old | 3 lbs

I have a question about my guinea pig, Patches. He has developed a lump around his bottom right nipple and it seems really swollen. Today his nipple was leaking a clear fluid and it has a purple shade to it, I'm really worried about him and I am looking for some help as to what it may be.

His could be an abscess or a mass surrounding the nipple. It looks as if it may cause Patches some discomfort. I would recommend taking him in to your veterinarian to have the lump checked out. He may need antibiotics or surgery to remove it. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
