My dog came in with a cheek wound. Bite or branch? How to treat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Male | neutered | 12 years and 1 month old

My dog just came in from being outside and has a mark on his cheek. 1. How do I know if it is a bite wound or a branch poked him? 2. How do I clean and treat the wound?

Honestly it could be either, and without seeing Jack in person, I can't say for certain. I would gently clean the wound with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps!
