My puppy keeps licking his mouth and lips. Is he teething or sick?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Male | neutered | 5 months and 16 days old | 28 lbs

I have noticed that since last night, Asher has been licking his mouth/lips a lot as if he has something in his mouth. It actually woke me up last night. He’s too young for any oral diseases so I’m guessing it’s because of his adult teeth coming in? He’s eating more now, so I’m guessing he’s feeling a little better each day oral wise.

It could be Asher is feeling nauseous or it could be his adult teeth are coming in. It's good that he's eating more, and I'd just keep an eye on him for now. If his appetite goes down or he starts licking his mouth a lot again, have him seen by a vet to be safe. I hope this helps!
