Why is my dog not eating, lethargic, and has an enlarged prostate?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 10 years and 8 months old | 21 lbs

So last few days my dog won’t eat or drink a thing, he just wants to lie down everything seems to much of an effort him him. Ive taken him the vets and they said he dehydrated heart rate low etc. They taken blood tests and everything has came back ok. So they put him on a drip made him back ok. But something came up about his prostrate being enlarged or inflamed. Be brutally honest.. is this the beginning of the end??

Sorry to hear this, it isvery promising that his bloods were good and dehydration alone can certainly make an animal feel very poorly. The prostate being enlarged could be a number of things. In uncastrated dogs the most common thing is enlargement due to hormones, however I see your dog is castrated. In this case enlargement could've due to a tumour but likewise could be an infection. I would suggest speaking to your vet about this as a biopsy would help to determine the exact nature of the enlargement and put your mind at rest. I think you need some more information before you can determine a prognosis.
