My cat is squinting one eye. Is it allergies or a serious problem?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Male | 8 lbs

I'm not sure if its allergies but recently shadow has been squinting in just one eye what can I do this just started and I'm very concerned he's my baby

Hello. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Squinting of the eye is due to pain - that is not seen with allergies. Most often, in cats, the pain is due to an ocular herpes virus infection or a scratch on the corneal surface. I suggest you take him to the vet for an examination.
