My senior dog has swollen gums and a mouth mass. Is it cancer?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 11 years and 1 month old | 4 lbs

pancho was sick and congested (refer to previous question please) a while ago, but I took him to the vet that very day my question was answered. All seemed okay we talked about a cleaning in the near future as mouth cancer is common in small dogs. He was given an antibiotic and recovered swiftly. Today I picked him up and noticed his gums swollen and a mass in his mouth. He hasn’t been acting different. Shows no sign of being sick. Can this be cancer? Please get back to me as soon as you can. We cannot link to previous question but his mouth does look both inflamed and infected and chronic inflammation can trigger abscesses and tumors. I recommend getting him checked by your vet and scheduling dental work as soon as possible
