My cat ate human sleeping pills. What home care can I provide?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Male | neutered | 1 year and 9 months old

We got a cat from a guy. He said it had been force fed Zolpidem. I can’t pay for a vet right now. What can I do for him at home. He is mildly agitated, hyperactive, unbalanced, and is getting increasingly bold.

This is a big problem. You really need to get him to the vet for treatment. There is a potential drug available that can be tried as a reversal agent. If you cannot get him to the vet there is nothing you can do at home other than to put him in a dark room and leave him alone in hopes that the side effects will wear off and that he will not have any long term side effects. He could potentially die depending on what dose he ingested. ( https://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/poison/ambien/ )
