My dog has vitiligo. Is it contagious, does it shorten life, or cause color loss?

My friend has dog who has vitiligo so if slimy dog plays with him can he also get vitiligo ? Also till this March his lips were okay and suddenly next month in April he started to loss his color ? Have you seen any other German shepherd with these lips color ? Is it true dogs with vitiligo tends to have shorter life span and they die early ?

Vitiligo is not contagious, it's passed genetically. That's why it's never recommended to breed a dog who has it. It's more common in some breeds, like a Rottweiler, but it can happen in any breed. No, it's not true that dogs with vitiligo have shorter life spans.
