Tick removed from cat's neck. Is a red mark normal or concerning?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 3 years and 4 months old

Hi there my cat is 2/3 and he had a tick on his neck just yesterday, he had been down for two weeks prior to this but my partner removed the tick and he seems to be back to his usual happy self however the tick that was on his neck has left a red mark that he won’t let us touch I just want to confirm that this is normal as I’m starting to become slightly worried. Kind regards Emily Cussans

Hi Emily! Secretions from the tick's feeding parts can cause skin reactions, such as raised areas, lumps and growths called granulomas. I would keep an eye on this area, and if it doesn't go away in a few days, have Jensen seen by a vet. I hope this helps!
