Why does my senior dog have a black scabby patch on her face?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Lhasa Apso | 5 years and 4 months old

I have a 15 year old Lhasa. I just noticed a black scabby patch on her left cheek. It is not attached to her interior. What does this sound like?

This looks like a papilloma wart that got irritated (ie: she scratched it or something). I would not be overly concerned about it. You are welcome to put some Neosporin on it to help it heal. These "warts" are very common in small breed dogs. As always, you know your dog best, if you are worried then you should have her examined by your vet.
