My dog this morning chewed his toy and ate some of the stuffing in it, I think this made his stomach upset and he threw up all his food he had eaten the first time and just stomach acid the second. He hasn’t thrown up since but I read I should fast him so his stomach can rest. I just wanted to know if he’ll be okay and how long I should fast time or if his toy stuffing can be digested. Yesterday my 6 month old pitbull ate a few small dog toys. I induce vomiting with hydrogen peroxide and they all came out. Today he is having diarrhea. He is eating drinking and breathing normal.

Poor pup! Withhold food for 8-12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.

Hello. If there has been no more vomiting for at least 12 hours, you can feed small amounts of plain cooked chicken with plain rice or low fat cottage cheese. You can give him 1 cup every few hours as long as he does not vomit. Continue this for another 24 hours & then try to transition back to his regular diet. If he continues to vomit &/or have severe diarrhea, you will need to contact your veterinarian for testing such as blood work & x-rays of his GI tract to see if this shows what the problem is. Poor Kai! There is always a concern that if he ate part of the stuffed animal, it could become obstructed in his stomach. Eating it could have also upset his stomach. To try to settle his stomach, I would withhold food and feed a bland diet. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

Ot of nowhere this morning he regurgitated his breakfast. Should i fast him for 12 hours or feed regularly?

Poor guy. I would recommend fasting him for 12 hrs and then try feeding him a small portion of his regular food or a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese in small portions for the next few days, then slowly transition him back to his normal diet. Hopefully this is a one time incident and he doesn't need further care from your vet. Best wishes with Louie moving forward and I hope his vomiting doesn't continue. Take care!

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. After this much time, I would not recommend inducing vomiting at this time. More than likely it is in the process of moving through the gut, or it has already passed unnoticed in the stool. If Marsha is still eating, & there is no vomiting or diarrhea, then I would continue to watch for any difficulties. Feeding her a bland diet of 25% boiled chicken or beef and 75% plain, cooked white rice should help to move the material through. If all is well after 3 days of the diet, then I would be surprised if any further issues develop. But any concerns, please see your veterinarian as soon as possible. Thank you.

My dog ate stuffing from her pillow and wont stop barfing. Please help :(

Stuffing can act as a gastrointestinal foreign body that results in obstruction of the bowels. If vomiting is persistent, this is a strong indication that there may be either a partial or complete obstruction preventing food and water from moving forward in the GI tract. An abdominal x-ray would be the next best step to determine if your pet has a radiographic abdominal pattern consistent with obstruction. This should be done asap (as in today), because dehydration and irritation/trauma to the GI tract will continue worsening the longer it is present. If there is an obstruction, abdominal surgery may be necessary to remove it. And that's the case, we want your pet to be as stable as possible for the surgery. The longer the delay, the more weak and dehydrated your pet will be, and thus potentially less stable for surgery. In the meantime, I would offer only a small volume of water at a time, to see if your pet can keep it down without vomiting. I wish you both the best of luck!

My mixed breed keep vomiting since yesterday. No eating as much. What can I do?

Throwing up can have many causes. It is basically a problem with the stomach and intestines caused by a food over sensitivity, eating something that does not agree with the dog, intestinal parasites, an intestinal blockage, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc. I would fast Buddy for 24 hours and then put him on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to his regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the vomiting or if the vomiting increases, or if he gets lethargic, he needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.

I checked one of those other ask a vet website, it said I should have my dog do a fasting for 24hrs, then start her on a bland white chicken and rice 50/50 for 1 week, is this correct. My dog is hungry should I let her eat or not.

Fasting for 12-24 hours is fine to give the GI tract a break, especially if the main problem was vomiting. The bland diet is fed for at least 3 days beyond the resolution of the diarrhea. I would begin with small amounts of the bland diet and gradually increase to the full amount to ensure the stomach does not become too upset and trigger vomiting. I hope this helps!

There is not a hard and fast rule for how long a pet should be without food. Some vets say as long as 24 hours. I generally recommend 6 to 12 hours.
