My dog has a large mammary tumor. Could it be cancer or metastasis?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | unspayed | 40 lbs

If dog has a large lump/tumor say maybe around the size of a tennis ball or maybe smaller (see pic). Plus several small ones in the mammary. Vet told us there’s ulser there. And he says it’s likely cancer. Does this sound like cancer? He thinks it’s metastasis. Does this sound like that?

As she is unspayed it's very likely a primary tumor of the mammary gland, it's not possible to know if it has already sent metastases to other places in the body though. the recommendation is to get it removed surgically ASAP.
