Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Female | 14 years and 3 months old | 18 lbs
My little dachshund has started tripping over the door thresholds in the house. She doesn't even pay attention to them and just marches forward into them. She's 14 years old and has shown the early signs of dementia by getting trapped in corners and pacing the house. She's deaf, has sezuires and has cataracts. My vet recently upped her phenobarbital to 15 mg a day so I'm wondering if the phenobarbital is making her loopy enough to trip over the door threshold or is it her advancing dementia?

Poor girl. These are all signs of dementia unfortunately. Phenobarbital doesn't cause symptoms like these. I would recommend discussing with your vet about getting her on supplements to help her with her cognitive dysfunction, such as Reconcile. There is also a prescription diet designed to help aging pets called Hill's B/D that you can have your vet prescribe if interested. Best wishes and take care.
