My dog ate jelly beans, drooling, thirsty, mouth open. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 7 months old | 90 lbs

My dog ate some Jelly Belly jelly beans last night. Since then hes drinking a lit of water. Drooling a lot and dosent completely close his mouth. His tongue is showing. Other than that he seems tired but also playful with our other dog. Should I be worried? Thanks

The jelly beans could be making Odin nauseous. There's a lot of sugar in jelly beans, and that does cause nausea. I would keep an eye on him for now, and if he is still acting this way in the morning, have him seen by a vet. Best of luck.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. If there was artificial sweetener in these such as Xylitol, then I would be concerned. If these are just regular jelly beans with sugar in them, then he will likely have GI upset and be fine. If he continues to vomit or becomes lethargic, then I would recommend taking him in to be seen by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate treatment recommendations can be made.
