My dog's hip might be dislocated. How to help her pain at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shorthaired Pointer | Female | spayed | 7 years and 10 months old | 55 lbs

So I believe my dog has a dislocated hip. I had to carry her inside yesterday cause she wouldn't put any weight on her back leg. I can't get her to the vet till Monday late afternoon..are there any natural remedies for pain? Buffered aspirin maybe? Or a heat/ice pack I can put on her leg? She's eating/drinking/urinating fine but hasn't had a bowel movement in 18hrs. She whimpers every once in awhile..but that may b because I put her in her kennel to keep her from moving. How can I help her?

Poor Penny! Do not give her aspirin, it causes GI ulcers and bleeding in dogs. You can try a heat pack to see if that helps. You need to get her into the vet asap, I'm concerned that if she hasn't had a bowel movement, it could be due to nerves being damaged if she has dislocated her hip.
