Why does my puppy remove his crate bottom? How can I stop this?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Samoyed | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 18 days old | 6 lbs

Oli has been using his crate for around 2 months now. He seems to love it. Lately (last 3 days) he's been removing the bottom of it (the perforated bottom that covers the drawers under him) everytime I'm away. His crate is usually full of his favorite toys. I have no clue how he caught this, why he does it, and how to stop it. Please help!

It’s impossible to know why he has suddenly decided this is a new thing to do. It would be nearly impossible to train him not to do this since you are not home to supervise him at all times. Your best option is to try to figure out a way to adhere the bottom of the crate. You may also try looking for a different kind of crate that has a smooth bottom. Best of luck.
