Is yellow, fatty stool normal for a screaming newborn kitten?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 3 days old

I found a new born kitten about 3 days old abandoned and obviously not fed or taken care of since birth. When he is a sleep he starts screaming, and i figured out hes pooping. His poop is bright yellow and like the consistency of fat. Is this normal?

This is fairly normal stool for a neonatal kitten, although it does look a bit watery. The stool should start to become more firm and brown as the kitten gets older. If it seems very watery or you are seeing blood or mucous there would be some concern. It might be a good idea to have this very young kitten examined by a vet regardless to make sure it seems to be healthy and to discuss proper bottle feeding and other care.
