If a person touches a pine caterpillar, can it spread to their dog?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered

if a person comes in contact with the pine caterpillar can they spread it to a dog? my dad has this bad skin reaction to something (looks like urticaria, but i can’t find good pictures of reactions to this caterpillar so i’m afraid it might be that). We washed everything and our dog seems fine (it has been almost a week since this started happening)

While pine processionary caterpillars can affect dogs, a person with skin lesions would not be able to pass the irritation on to a dog. The caterpillar's hairs are what cause the rash and other symptoms so your dog would need to be in direct contact with the caterpillar to develop symptoms.
