My dog's dog park bite is oozing after home care. What's next?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 6 months and 12 days old | 40 lbs

My dog got nipped at the dog park a few days ago. We have been treating it with hydrogen peroxide and neosporin and it’s seemed to been fine. Now it is starting to ooze. Are there any treatments we should try?

I am sorry to hear about your dog! I would recommend bringing him in to his vet to examine the wound if it is not improving. It probably needs to be shaved and cleaned (I cannot see the actual wound in the photo so assume it is covered in fur and the wet area on the cheek). Often bites are puncture wounds and are deep and sometimes do require antibiotics to treat infection.
