How to stop my male rabbit from peeing everywhere with brown urine?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 24 days old | 3 lbs

I have a 5 month old male lion head. He lives inside in a wire bottom cage with a blanket in the corner. He does not have just one spot that he pees in. It's everywhere. When we let him out he pees on the carpet. His pee is brown but not bloody and he has no skin irritation. Should I be concerned? What can I do to help him?

Thanks for reaching out about Vasco. It is not uncommon for male rabbits to urinate on areas as territoriality marking. Castration is recommended in an attempt to curb this behavior, Works on most but not on all. The thicker, brown urine might be a result of testosterone but also too much green vegetables in the diet. Have a veterinarian review your rabbits diet. Good luck.
