Kitten ate Easter grass, now has red, soft poop. Is it serious?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Bombay | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 6 days old | 3 lbs

My cat is 3 months old. He ate Easter grass a couple weeks ago and puked it up, the last puke was liquidity and a little red. He’s been normal for the last two weeks; very playful and eats a drinks good and uses bathroom like normal except when we first got him he used to meow when using the litter box but not anymore. Yesterday he pooped and it had red in it. Last night it was diarrhea. Now it’s super soft and very very light brown. I’m worried there is a bigger problem.

Poor Binx. There may be a bigger problem, but I can give you a home remedy for him to try first to see if that helps. Withhold food for 6 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.
