Could a dog's X-ray mass mimic cancer? What else could it be?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 8 years and 10 months old | 108 lbs

I decided to let me best friend Jake go today. It was peaceful. I'm second guessing myself. According to Vet he had colon cancer or at the very least a mass on colon. Although rare GSD account for most. Swollen testicles, both back legs swollen. Is there anything that could mimic cancer on x ray,? Could it be something else? This seemed to progress fast in 2 weeks

I am so sorry you said goodbye to Jake today. Please accept my condolences for your loss. A mass on x-ray is typically very bad, but it could also be a cyst or an abscess. If it progressed fast, I would suspect cancer. Please don't second guess yourself, the vet wouldn't have put him down if it wasn't the best option for him. Again, I'm sorry for your loss.
