How can I pervent eye problems in my dog? Dachshunds are at higher risk for cataracts and glaucoma. How can I pervent eye diseases in him? What age are dogs usllay affected?

There is no way to prevent eye problems in dogs especially if the eye disease has an underlying genetic component. Cataracts and glaucoma can be seen at any age but often times will show up after about 8 years of age. All you can do is to keep him as healthy as possible overall. Be sure to have a yearly veterinary exam done. Keeping him at his ideal weight is one of the biggest things you can do to keep him healthy. There are some eye "vitamins" you can purchase that may help. I don't think anyone knows the true efficacy of them but they won't hurt if you want to use one.
