Why is my old, usually aloof cat suddenly so clingy and needy?

Texas is older, we understand that. He's acting very strange today, he's usually aloof doesn't want much attention and hates cuddling, but today he's completely opposite. He's refused to get off my lap all day and follows me around the house wailing because he wants to sit on me. Should I be concerned he's being so insistent on attention. Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 10 years and 11 months old | 23 lbs
