My cat doesn't clean her bum after pooping. Is this a problem?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 4 months old

So my boyfriends cat has always had issues covering her poop. She scratches the wall, side of litter box, etc. But she also doesnt clean her bum after pooping... ever. Is this an issue? His other cat and my cat do just fine with this.

Cats are very clean animals in general. They clean them themselves for the same reason that they bury their waste in the litter. They are afraid that the smell could alert predators to their presence - this is instinct. Yin may just not have as much of this instinct as the normal cat. It is not a problem as long as she doesn't have feces stuck to her anus or down her back legs. If you notice this then you will need to clean it off or she will get an infection. You can use wipes like this: ( https://www.allivet.com/p-5339-aoe-animal-odor-eliminator-pet-wipes-80.aspx )
