My male dog won't calm after female spay. He's mounting and barking.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Alaskan Malamute | Female | spayed | 70 lbs

I just got my female dog spayed after an unwanted hook up with my Male dog. My male dog is still trying to mount her and is also barking non stop when we have him in his crate. I was wondering if there was anything I could do to help him calm down while we help her recover

I assume he is not neutered, and if your budget allows, now would be a good time so they can both recover! I understand if that’s not an option right now. It may be best to see if he can stay with a friend or family member for a week or so, or talk to your vet about a sedative medication such as trazadone or acepromazine.
