My dog breathes fast while resting. Should I worry after a bath?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 26 lbs

My dog is breathing fast and short breaths just while laying down. Other wise he seems totally normal and happy, though he hasn’t done anything to warrant the shallow breathing. Should I be concerned? He hasn’t been exposed to any new foods, though I did give him a bath for the first time today.

I would recommend to monitor him closely for the next 4-6hours in case signs become more consistent. The presentation you described should not be a problem at all, especially if there are no other signs with it.
