My iguana has worms. What's the best medicine or treatment for them?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi, i have a male iguana around 1yr old. I've had him for about 6months. He has had worms since i got him, probably raised on an iguana farm. I would like some advice about which medicine i can use. I have a lot of experience with iguanas but i have never had to deal with worms.

Thanks for reaching out about your iguana. It really depends on the type of worms. Tapeworms and roundworms respond to different medications. Other parasites are microscopic (flagellates, ciliates, amoebas) and would be a totally different medication. A fecal examination at your veterinarian would be best, to identify the specific parasite and prescribe the appropriate medication. Good luck.
