Is rabies vaccine necessary for indoor kittens? Does it shorten life?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 20 days old | 4.85 lbs

Hi! My cat is 3 and half months old. It is living indoor, no chance of getting out, may i suppose to give him anti rabies vaccine? Somebody told me it reduces the lifespan of the kitten. Is it true? Is it ok not to give it?

Hi there. I generally still recommend vaccinating indoor-only cats for rabies, since there's always the possibility that a bat or other animal could get into the house. Since rabies is a fatal disease that can also be spread to humans, it's best not to take any chances. Giving the rabies vaccine is safe, and will not reduce your kitten's lifespan.
