Can a dog recover from severe seizures, blindness, and paralysis?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Redbone Coonhound | Male | neutered | 7 years and 9 months old | 112 lbs

My dog had a serious of two days of multiple seizures (more than 10) he suffered a severe head injury as a pup and then 8 months later started having seizures . Was on both phenabarbitol and potassium bromide. Went 3.5 weeks without seizing. Then multiple seizures that caused him to go blind and paralysis for more than 4 hours. We had him put down because I didn't think he could recover from this! Could he have made some type of recovery had I waited?

It is not likely. I think you made the correct decision to have him humanely euthanized. I know it was a difficult decision for you to make and I'm very sorry you had to make it. I really believe you did what was best for him.
