Why is my dog having seizures, incontinence, and bloody stool?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 14 lbs

My dog has had 3 episodes today about 3 hrs apart. He starts barking and then starts running. He runs into things and he gets tachycardic. He also urinates himself and 2 times he defecated. His stool was liquid and appears to have blood in it the 2nd time. He has a history of seizures but is not on any medication at this time. Otherwise his vet said he is healthy, this was a month ago. He did say he has some gallstones.

It sounds like seizure activity to me. Not all seizures are grand mal where the dog falls over and starts paddling. I suggest you get him back to the vet for a follow-up and discuss putting him on some anti-seizure medication. Occasionally severe pain can cause these types of symptoms. It is possible that the gallstones may be causing him some random pain. Most often though, gallstones do not cause any problems in dogs like they do in people. Again, talk to your vet about your options.
