Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Male | neutered | 8 years and 1 month old | 68 lbs

Hello, My border collie , Judo , has likely had a stroke according to our local vet and is unable to stand, walk or get up at all. He has not pooped or pee’d for over 15 hours because of this . He is whimpering and I don’t know what to do, how do I stimulate urination and bowel movement ? Our vet has not given us much info to work with and is off duty right now.. please help :(

I’m so sorry this has happened to Judo. It’s concerning that Judo has not urinated, although I wouldn’t be too concerned at this point about a lack of defecation. You could try carrying Judo outside and propping him up with towels so he can posture to urinate. If he still doesn’t go you may need to see an emergency veterinarian to see if they can manually express his bladder or pass a catheter. He may even need to stay in the hospital for supportive care.
