Why does my cat have a fluctuating high fever with no clear cause?

Debil went to vet w 104. 6 temp last Tuesday. fluct from am to pm-every day. now is 105.3-tues pm. has been normal twice. on steroids and antibio. is eating and drinking. good spirits. anemic. always been healthy until 1 yr. vet said flea/tick borne maybe. inside cat but do have catio. feluk neg. lost 1 lb since nov '18. multiple cat home. everybody else ok. cannot find reason for fever. thanks. Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 15 years and 1 month old | 8 lbs

Fevers in cats are really frustrating. They can have many causes, and sometimes we can’t find any cause at all (Fever of Unknown Origin - FUO). Sometimes IV fluids can help with the fever, and sometimes it will go away in a few days with or without treatment. As long as he is comfortable and eating, I wouldn’t be so concerned. It sounds like your vet has a good plan for treatment.
