Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 23 lbs

Hello! We just came back from a camping trip and my dog has been feeling sick and has the runs for the past two nights.. I noticed that his poop has a gelly like thing in his poop... Looks like mucus? He just threw up and it is yellow.. He has been sleeping all day and usually has tons of energy.. I am concerned if anyone can please let me know what is wrong. Thanks, Briana Diamond

Unfortunately, your dog's clinical signs are somewhat non-specific and could be indicative of many different pathologies. I would start by first assessing Flynn's stability. Take a look at his gums to see if they are pink and moist. Light pink to pale and or dryness may indicate a problem. You could take a rectal temperature checking for a range between 99.5-102.5. Deviations in this may indicate an infection or inflammatory response. You can also check his hydration by checking skin turgor. Pull on skin to see if it returns to its original position immediately. If there is a delayed response, there may be evidence of dehydration. If all the above appear within normal limits, there is not likely to be an emergency. However, it certainly sounds like Flynn is in need of further assessment. Unless he is back to his regular self by tomorrow morning, I would have him checked out. If he appears to be unstable based on the above mentioned, I would not wait until morning.
