Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 14 days old | 2.4 lbs
Sorry if this isn't very relevant, but I just wanted to ask some questions about breeding dogs. I already have one male dog who is around 2 and we just got a new girl puppy. My parents want them to breed but I don't really think they know what they are doing. So first, I really don't want them to breed before she is two years old, but how do I prevent that? Do they mate while she is out of heat as well? And how do I know when she is in heat or when she is about to go in heat, how long it lasts

You have some great questions! When Luna goes into heat, keep her and your make completely separate at all times until it passes. You are right that she shouldn’t be bred until closer to two years of age. No, they will not mate when she’s not in heat. Signs of heat include a swollen vulva, bleeding, and mounting behavior. A dog goes into heat once every six months, and it lasts 3-4 weeks. I hope this helps!
