My dog bit his skin, now it's black. Is it flea allergy dermatitis?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Good evening, I hope you can help with this problem. About a month ago, my dog started to bite the back part of his body, right above his right leg. The skin was broken. There is no hair left in that spot. Now, he doesn't bite there any more, but it became kind of black. I read online and found out that it could be a flea allergy dematitis. I just put on a seresto collar on him today. He was wearing one before, but it was temporarily taken off when I was travelling abroad. Please advice. Thanks

Yes, it could be due to a flea allergy. The black you are seeing is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. I would not be overly worried about that. The lesion looks very quiet now. I would continue with the Seresto collar and if you notice this recurring or happening in another location I would have him seen by your vet for an exam.
