My dog snorted out her nasal vaccine. Will it still work or hurt?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | spayed | 7 years and 3 months old | 14 lbs

I unvaccinated my Shih Tzu with Kennel-ject 2. I put it in her nose as directed, but she snorted at least half of it back out and then licked off her nose. Will this hurt her?

No, this is completely normal with intranasal vaccines. The entire volume doesn't need to stay inside her nose, it just needs to make contact with the nasal lining - most dogs immediately snort most of it back out. The vaccine will still be effective. Licking it will not hurt her at all.
