My cat has had decreased appetite, lethargy, heavy breathing, and has been sleeping more than usual. I have also noted that his gums are light pink/white.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Charlie. Based on your description, I recommend that you seek emergency veterinary care for him tonight. It is worrisome that he is experiencing heavy breathing. Based on his examination, he will likely need bloodwork and x-rays of his chest to determine the source of his problem. I hope this information helps and you are able to get him some help. Good luck!

Light pink or white gums can be a sign of anemia, and it’s possible that this could be the cause of the decreased appetite, lethargy and heavy breathing you’re seeing. There are many potential causes of anemia, and I’d recommend seeing a veterinarian to see if Charlie does have anemia and to determine the potential causes.
