My dog has a fast-growing lump on her carpal pad. What is it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua (Smooth Coat) | Female | unspayed | 9 years old | 5 lbs

My dog developed this on it’s carpal pad on her left front leg. It has grown quickly in just one month. I don’t know what can it be! It doesn’t bother her and it looks like is not painful because she lets me hold her paw, she doesn’t limp either. She licks it often, once it had a little watery blood sack but it bursted. It looks firm, not like a pimple. The first pic is from last month when I first noticed, the others are from today. Her carpal pad is almost gone.

Oh that does look bad, and I would be concerned in a dog La Michelle's age, this could be a malignant tumor. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. Give a vet a call to make her an appointment. Best of luck.
