My cat has lymphoma & IBS. Is LID food a good novel protein option?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 11 years and 9 months old | 11.5 lbs

Trix was just diagnosed with small cell lymphoma and since she started Leukeran she no longer wants to eat her Royal Canin selected protein foods(rabbit duck venison) or hydrolyzed food. I spoke with Petco Pet Education Center earlier and is was suggested I try natural balance limited ingredient food(a single protein and a single carb source). I did so and she liked it. A pic is attached. Would this food act in the same way as her novel protein foods?... It’s appropriate for irritable bowel? Thx

This could be a novel protein diet if Trixie has never had tuna or pumpkin before, but most cats have had tuna in food at some point in their lives. Natural Balance also does not have a boarded nutritionist on staff and I believe Royal Canin has more quality control measures in place to ensure there is no contamination. Ultimately it comes down to what works best for Trixie - check in with your vet, but I’d guess that it’s fine to try this food and see if she has a flare up of her symptoms.
