Is it safe to leave dry food out for my kitten? Best dental treats?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 9 days old

Hi! I have a 8 month old kitten and I give her a combination of wet,dry food, and water in Separate bowls. Furthermore, I give her half a can of wet food twice a day but I leave the dry food out for her to freely eat when she wants the whole day. I also try to offer her a mixture of two brands of dry food to keep her interested into her food and to offer her more options. How long is it safe to leave dry food out? In addition, what kind of dental treats would you recommend for a picky kitten?

I wouldn't worry about dry food being left out unless it's not being finished in a couple of days. Your vet may carry Virbac Dental treats or Greenies for cats, either one of those should help keep her teeth clean and be a tasty treat.
