Dog with collapsing trachea ate tortilla, now coughing. Is it stuck?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Male | unneutered | 4 years old | 10 lbs

My dog has a collapsing trachea. He’s been on medications for about a week that have been keeping him calm. Also an antibiotic to treat infection that may have been causing this. He’s been doing well but today his coughing seems to be coming back. He ate a piece of a soft tortilla and I worry it may be stuck? Would he have thrown it up if so? He’s eaten and drank plenty since swallowing the piece of tortilla. Also will saliva eventually break up the bready tortilla if it is stuck?

Hi, if has drunk and eaten after the tortilla it means nothing is stuck. If the tortilla was lodged somewhere it would be in the oropharynx which is behind the soft palate of the mouth and from here food moves into the esophagus. Symptoms would be continuous cough, salivation, being distressed and pacing. Hope this helps !
