My dog coughs after soot exposure. Does she need an expensive X-ray?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 94 lbs

Our 8yr old black Lab developed a cough just after our home suffered soot damage. Her cough has improved slightly but I'm concerned that its bad when she exerts herself even mildly. I'm thinking she may need an xray. Our Vet is very expensive.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Penny. I do recommend that she sees a veterinarian. She could have lung damage from inhaling the soot or she could have acquired an upper respiratory tract infection. Her veterinarian will determine if x-rays are needed based on her exam findings. You can always ask for a cost up front before agreeing to the the films. I hope this information helps!
