My unspayed female dogs are fighting. What can I do to stop them?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 10 years and 4 months old | 40 lbs

I'm staying with a friend for a while and one of his dogs has attacked my dog twice now. They are both girls, mine is about 10 years old and his is about 5 years old. They used to be around each other slot a few years back with no problems. They are both not fixed. Is there something I can do to get this to stop, my dog is too old for fighting.

At this stage you are not likely to correct this behavior. It is not uncommon for two female dogs that are not spayed to fight. You can have one or both of them spayed - that might help but there is no guarantee. The best thing to do is keep them separated at all times. If they have to be in the same room together then I suggest you keep basket muzzles on them so they can't hurt each other.
